PAT Testing Info
In the first blog in this series we talked about the need for a competent person and the skills necessary to complete the portable appliance testing. Here in part two we will discuss some of the equipment needed to perform the testing safely and accurately.
Obviously the main piece of equipment is the PAT tester itself and HT PAT Testing use the Seaward Primetest 350 which is an excellent piece of kit although a bit on the expensive side. If you have a very large amount of testing to complete then it is worth taking a look at one of these. There are three main types of testers available and they are as follows:
Pass or Fail (Basic Testers)
Manual Testers
Downloadable and Advanced Testers
The type of tester you will require will depend upon the amount and classes of equipment to be tested at your location. The competent person designated to complete the testing should be familiar with the types of testers and choose one which is capable and practical for your requirements. Visit the link here for a more detailed description of the different PAT testers available.
You will also need some good quality PAT testing labels to attach to each piece of equipment as it is tested, ensure a good quality of label is chosen we have seen some labels sold that will not stick very well and tear too easily. Pass labels will be needed for the equipment that passes the tests and fail labels for anything that does not. Each label should have a unique identification number so that every item tested can be easily identified when needed. Other information included on each label will be the date the test was completed, the next test due date and the initials of the person performing the tests.
Well that is it for part two so please check back again soon for part three where we will look at additional tools that may be required.
